edeniade: (Harry Potter thinks naughty thoughts)

I managed to get my grubby hands on [livejournal.com profile] catlein's copy of 'Deathly Hallows' and read it in 7 hours. Longer than it took me to go through HPB but I was in the middle of moving! After finally getting settled in to my new place (which is pretty spiffy) I now have the time to write MY review of this 7th and final installment!

Okay, first I'm going to sum up some simple points that I had throughout the whole book.

1. Harry/Ginny make me vomit.
2. Ron/Hermione makes me want to jihad.
3. Luna's dad Xenophilus is kind of an idiot.
4. Holy crap almost every character ever mentioned in HP is here. o_o
5. Thank gods McGonagall wasn't killed!!! YAY!! \o/ <3<3<3

I still have mixed feelings about this last book just because there were so many parts that made me want to throw the book at the wall and smash it because it seemed so fan ficcy. Then I would remember that it wasn't actually my copy I was reading and not smash it or cause physical harm to passers-by. >_> I'm sorry, but every moment Harry was all, "*sniff* I MISS GINNY WOE IS ME I'M GONNA BE EMO NOW" I wanted to kill a small animal. JK, I resent the killing of all my slashy dreams of H/Hr (okay so I don't DREAM in slash, it just made my world a better place knowing Harry and Hermione are far more suited for each other I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY JK!).

I actually liked that Ron decided to run off for a bit. Mostly because it gave the impression that Ron wasn't just Harry's little puppy following him around everywhere. Even if it did make Ron look like a bit of a prat, I enjoyed it because it gave the book the H/Hr time it deserved.

I also adored how Lee Jordan and crew set up a 'Potterwatch' radio station! This may or may not be because I absolutely love Lee Jordan, but even though the radio station was just like 'LOL PLOT POINT' I still thought it was cute.

Dumbledore's backstory was so fascinating. Reading about his family and friends when he was young explained SO MUCH of his demeanor. I always wanted to know more about his brother Aberforth considering he was mentioned in the past books what, 3 times or so? I reeeeeally loved all of it, as sad as it was. Bit weird that Aberforth turned out to be the bartender at the Hog's Head though. >_>

Harry vs. Voldemort round 1 resulting in willingful death? And Harry comes back? What? You...he...what? I'm sorry but that's taking artistic license a BIT too far for me kthx. Then again, Harry talking to Dumbledore in...Limbo? was kind of amusing.

Lastly, the only two times I got misty-eyed and choked up was, 1. When Fred died and 2. The Snape/Lily memories in the Pensieve. When Fred died I was heartbroken! I mean, the thought of losing a twin? Especially when they were cracking the lame jokes over George's lack of an ear but now GEORGE HAS NO TWIN OH GODS. That just got to me. :(

As far as I know, I think I'm the only person that REALLY liked the Snape/Lily from the memories in the Pensieve. Now, I'm no creepy Snape fanficcer but I just was so enamored by the memories of Snape growing up and how HE was the one to tell Lily she was a witch. I mean, you go through all the other HP books with the impression through the trio's eyes that Snape's a heartless, slimy bastard but now we finally get to see it all from HIS point of view. I think it was when you learn that Snape's Patronus is a doe like Lily's that I just choked up. I'm a sucker for things like that I guess?

Finally, if I could I would give Luna and Neville huge HUGE hugs for being made of awesome. And Seamus too, because I just <3 Seamus. Also, I'm going to pretend the Epilogue never existed because it was just a pile of lame. Did you hear me JK? LAME!!
