That was insane.
Jun. 25th, 2006 05:00 pmPortugal vs. Netherlands.
Possibly the craziest and best game I've watched in my life!
I was cheering for the Netherlands but they lost. The game itself though? INSANE.
Portugal: 1 injured, 2 red-carded, and half of the team yellow-carded.
Netherlands: 2 red-carded, 3 yellow-carded.
A fight broke out after the second time Deco fouled. There were kicks to the face and shoulders, an elbow to the eye, rampant kicking of shins and shoving, even a couple kicks to Ricardo's ass by Kuyt and Ronaldo's inner thigh by Boulahrouz! (That kick got Ronaldo out of the game).
The damn Russian ref sucked ass and didn't even card blatant fouls! In the first half of the match, the Dutch were just getting beaten up and the ref didn't notice! It wasn't until the second half when cards were being thrown left and right.
I don't think I'll be out in the town tonight. The Portuguese of Montréal are going to be in their riot best, I'm sure.
And I'll cross my fingers that England can beat Portugal since two of Portugal's best players are suspended from that match (Costinha and Deco).
EDIT: As reported by Joystiq (of all places), the total 16 yellow cards given tied the record, and the 4 red cards set a new record for the World Cup. Fo' shame.
